Liability (Malpractice) Insurance

Professional liability insurance during clinical education in the United States is provided by the University. The University does not, however, provide coverage for clinical rotations or other activities outside of the United States. Rotations in hospitals and/or facilities under the jurisdiction of foreign governments will not be covered under the Midwestern University student malpractice and/or comprehensive general liability insurance. Students who are interested in a rotation site in a foreign country that requires malpractice insurance must pay for their own insurance coverage.

The University provides professional liability (PL) insurance coverage only for experiences that are under the direction and scope of the University. The University does not provide professional liability (PL) insurance coverage for experiences that fall outside its direction and scope. This includes, but is not limited to, situations in which a student chooses to work or observe in a private dental or medical practice such as a family member’s office during academic breaks or outside of approved coursework. In these circumstances, students are responsible for obtaining their own professional liability insurance coverage.
